When I grow up…I won’t take myself too seriously
Yes, that’s me dressed up as a can of soda. Beside me is my ladyboo Hatti, representing for the Peeps.
So, what are we doing in costumes?
Weeeeell, about a month ago I rode over to Hatti’s house for a catch-up date. In the middle of us chitting and chatting, she requested that I keep myself free on Saturday, October 16th. When I asked why, her only clue was that it had to do with something we talked about. Giiiiirl, what the heck? In our usual fashion, that day’s sharing including all sorts of things from money, love, planned communities, carpentry to racism.
Loving surprises and creating wild stories in my mind, I decided that Hatti and her partner were having a secret wedding. That was it, I just knew it.
Yeah…
Turned out, Hatti and few creative friends decided to dress up in homemade costumes and have a Sweets Parade. Their reason was simple – to bring smiles and lightheartedness to the people of Brooklyn. Come on, who doesn’t love sweets?
Armed with music and bags full of candy, we walked all over Park Slope bringing Halloween early. To top it off, a few local bars opened up early for us. I left before the Sweets had too many drinks and got sloppy.
One 7-year-old said it was “the best day ever!”, as he took handfuls of Sweet Tarts and Reese’s Pieces. No worries, to be responsible adults, we had someone dress up as tooth decay and someone else wearing a diabetes test costume. HAHAHAHA!
It felt great to spend the day being carefree and silly. My cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling so much. I’m all in for the next parade!!
