Big Wheels Keep on Turning

May is Bike Month in NYC and I’m all over it! I’ve been thinking about cycling to work and this is extra motivation to make it happen.

To get ready, a few days ago, I stopped by the Safety City location in Brooklyn for a FREE bike helmet fitting, a FREE bike helmet and a FREE NYC Cycling map.

I was extra geeked when I learned that NYC offers FREE helmets and fittings. With a thick, full head of hair and a sizable head, I didn’t want to spend tons of cash buying a helmet that could adequately protect me on the road.

How do you know if your helmet fits properly?

According to the instructor at Safety City, you should be able to fit the tip of your finger between your chin strap and chin, and place two fingers between where the helmet sits on your head and your eyebrows.

Okay, helmet? Check. Now, I just have to get my bike fixed and I’ll be on the road!

  2. Yeah! I’d love to!

I’m a pro at riding in parking lots and the side walk, but a completely newbie when it comes to the mean streets of NYC. It would be great to ride with a buddy and learn ropes!
