The bride-to-be, Nikki Apicha Jawelo Johnson, center, dances with friends during an African drum processional leading to the church before her wedding. The procession evoked a traditional African ceremony and, she said, let the community know that “at 40-something, this is a big deal that Nikki Johnson is about to get married!”
My friend sent me this slideshow and it warmed my spirit. Nikki looks so happy! I absolutely love celebrations!
When I have a union ceremony I want it to be filled with music, dancing, food and laughter. It would be wonderful to have my loved ones dance with me and my partner-to-be down to the ceremony. Definitely taking this idea. Thanks Nikki and Raymond for sharing your Brooklyn love!

Yeah these celebrations are on point! This very much reminds me of my brother’s wedding without the all white attire. I like this, I already have the African dance group picked out for the day I finally take that step.
@Tonye, Inye’s wedding? I think you showed me video footage of his ceremony. It was bea.u.ti.ful! And how are you going to have the dance group already picked out?! LOL! Actually, I’m not even mad at that. Go ahead with you’re preplanning. More brothers should be involved like that.
I enjoy reading your blog…..post something.
Soooon come!
I second that!
