This video is straight fire! Absolutely love the colors and shapes, mixed in with a late 80’s and early 90’s feel and TONS of Caribbean flavor.
Brings me back to camp talent show days when we used to spend all summer choreographing a dance routine to a hip-hop and reggae mash-up, like SWV’s “Anything” featuring Wu-Tang Clan and Patra’s “Romantic Call” featuring Yo-Yo. When the reggae part of the tape (Yup, folks were still using tapes back then) came on, that’s when we would bust out with the Bogle and Pepper Seed. You’d swear we were auditioning for Star Search the way we put our all into those performances. Those were the days I learned how to perfect my interpretation of the Black girl I’m-getting-down-on-the-dance-floor-so-come-see-me stank face. Don’t front, you know you do it too!
The camp’s administration eventually prohibited any of us from doing the Butterfly and Tick Tock because they felt those dances were too sexual for fourth and fifth graders. That was all fine with me because my little 9-year-old hips couldn’t get the isolation part of the Tick Tock down anyway. And of course, there was always some fellow camper who would let me know I wasn’t doing it right or just flat out “can’t dance”. Kids are so cruel.
